Maple Haven School

Kindness, Respect, Determination, Growth and Curiosity

Welcome to
The MAPLE HAVEN SCHOOL

The opening of Maple Haven stems from my deep passion for supporting individuals with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This commitment began with the founding of the Llewellyn School, which was born out of the clear need for a dedicated space for firstly my own child, but also soon realising the need further afield. Recognising the gap in resources and the lack of tailored educational opportunities, I felt compelled to create a place where these children could thrive. The Llewellyn School was the first step into making that difference, and Maple Haven continues that mission by offering a supportive, inclusive environment for individuals, with the focus being on communication and language. Together they embody my enduring commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of those with special needs.

At Maple Haven, we are deeply committed to providing a specialised, nurturing environment exclusively for children aged 4 to 18 with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Focusing on pupils with speech and language difficulties, non-verbal, preverbal and selective mutism. Our independent school focuses on creating an individualised approach to learning, ensuring that each child receives the tailored support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

We understand that every child has unique learning requirements and strengths, and our highly experienced staff work closely with families and therapists to develop personalised care and learning plans that address each child’s specific needs. Whether children require support for speech and language development, behavioural interventions, sensory needs, or cognitive development, we provide targeted, evidence-based strategies to help them succeed.

Our outdoor environment is a vital part of our approach. We recognise the importance of outdoor spaces in enhancing learning and fostering development. With dedicated, safe outdoor areas, we offer children opportunities to explore, engage in physical activity, and build resilience. These spaces provide a rich environment for sensory activities, social interaction, and skill development, all of which contribute to the holistic growth of each child.

Enrichment activities are also a key part of our curriculum, designed to promote personal growth and skill building. From creative arts and music to outdoor adventures, forest school, animal care and mindfulness practices, our sessions encourage children to explore their interests and develop new skills in a supportive, low-pressure setting.

Our interventions are focused on meeting the specific needs of each child. We implement a range of therapeutic supports such as speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and behavioural interventions, all of which are integrated into the school day to ensure consistency and progress. By closely monitoring each child's development and adapting our approach as needed, we empower our students to achieve their full potential in an environment where they feel safe, understood, and valued.

We believe in the power of child-led learning and the transformative impact of play on a child's development. We understand that each child learns in their own unique way, which is why we encourage children to take the lead in their educational journey. Through child-led approaches, children are given the freedom to explore their interests, ask questions, and engage in meaningful activities that spark their curiosity and foster intrinsic motivation. Learning through play is at the heart of our teaching philosophy, as it allows children to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and social skills in an enjoyable and engaging way. Play-based learning provides a rich, hands-on environment where children can explore new concepts, experiment with ideas, and develop confidence as they navigate challenges. By offering opportunities for both structured and unstructured play, we ensure that children can learn at their own pace, building essential life skills in a way that feels natural and fun.

At Maple Haven, we are proud to offer a supportive and inclusive community where children with Special Educational Needs are given the time, space, and resources they need to grow and succeed. Every child’s achievement, no matter how big or small, is celebrated as part of their unique journey toward independence and confidence.
